Millwall boss provides injury update on key man

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has issued an update on defender Shaun Hutchinson after he sat out their 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

Hutchinson was replaced in the heart of the Lions defence by Murray Wallace, who impressed alongside Dan Ballard and Jake Cooper.

Rowett is hopeful that Hutchinson won’t be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

“Hutch felt his quad yesterday in training,” explained the Lions boss. “It’s disappointing because he’s a big player for us.”

“Murray [Wallace], who would have started on the left for us, went into the middle and played really, really well. We felt [he’d start] because Coops has been struggling with his back, had an injection and got through the Portsmouth game maybe not at full capacity.

“But actually, I thought he looked like he was moving a lot better today. The back three defended really well. They’ve got some good attacking players out there and we’ve limited them to one shot from a wide free-kick. You can’t really ask for much more from your defenders – apart from go and get your head on that wide free-kick.

“I think over the three games [so far] we’ve shown that we’re a good Championship side. What we need to do is add that extra little bit to go and win games like we’ve said so often.”
