Millwall boss responds to loan link to Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry

Alex Neil has kept quiet on Millwall’s interest in Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry.

Our website broke the news that the 21-year-old, who has been prolific on loan at Stockport County in League One, is a January transfer window target for the Lions.

Villa have recalled Barry and are now set to let him make another temporary move but this time to the Championship. Predictably there is heavy demand for his services.

Millwall look set to part with Romain Esse this month with Neil confirming today that Crystal Palace are keen on securing the 19-year-old.

But Neil, appointed Lions head coach at the end of last month, was giving little away when asked about Barry in his press conference previewing Monday’s FA Cup tie against Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Scot said: “The problem I’ve got is you could name 100 players right now and I’d say: ‘Yes, no, yes, no – I don’t like him, I do like him’. At this stage Louie Barry is just another one of many players that has been taken back from his loan at Stockport by Aston Villa, hence the speculation with us and probably many other Championship clubs.

“Right now we are not going to have anyone imminently walking through the building tomorrow morning. As far as all the rest goes, for me that is just speculation.”
