Millwall manager Neil Harris will use pre-season to judge who will be his new captain.

The Lions have seen Tony Craig and Steve Morison both wear the armband for the SE16 outfit but the latter joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan last week.

Harris said: “People always have an opinion on what a leader is.

“Steve wasn’t afraid to tell people what he thought. I’m a manager who likes players to have an opinion, I’m comfortable with that.

“Other people lead in different ways, they lead by example and can be quite quiet in the changing room but are top professionals.

“We have got some young players with very good attributes to be leaders – Jed Wallace is very, very good. Jake Cooper and Mahlon Romeo can be good leaders too. Ben Thompson is Millwall through and through.

“I want people to set good examples but do they have a voice in the dressing room as well.

“Alex Pearce has got a voice and a presence in the changing room.

“With regards to the captaincy, it is a decision I will make over the course of pre-season. I want to see what other players we bring in over the course of the summer and which ones step up in Steve’s absence.”
