Millwall boss Rowett really confident of successful transfer business

Gary Rowett is confident that Millwall will be add to their attacking options before the transfer window closes.

The Lions allowed Matt Smith to join League Two side Salford City on a free transfer earlier this week.

And Jon Dadi Bodvarsson, who is also inside the final six months of his Den terms, is due to wrap up a permanent move to Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

There has been concern from some Millwall supporters that the squad has been left badly short of numbers in those offensive areas when you factor in that Tom Bradshaw (knee) and Sheyi Ojo (ankle) are both facing extended spells on the sidelines.

But Rowett told the South London Press: “What people don’t see is some of the conversations we have internally with individuals, who come to see me and say they desperately need to play football.

“Sometimes when you’re in that position you maybe haven’t quite got the motivation that we need. That’s not the players’ fault, it’s just the fact that they haven’t played regularly for a while.

“We’ve committed to freshening the squad – it’s really important we do that now and in the summer.

“These opportunities have come along and I don’t think it’s fair to turn around to a player and say: ‘Look, if there’s an opportunity then we’ll let you go’ and then change that.

“We’ll bring players in. We’ve got time to do that – and we will do that.

“The only thing that changes slightly is the two injuries and the timescale of those. It means that whereas before we had a little more time to maybe hang on for some of the younger targets we had, it might be now that we have to act a little bit quicker and do something, at the very least, until the end of the season. Then we’ll review it again.

“We need attacking players in the building and I’m confident we’ll add them. I wouldn’t let people go if I didn’t think I could replace them going down a slightly different route.”
