Millwall boss: Striker deal was one of worst-kept secrets in football

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall boss Neil Harris has described Lee Gregory’s move to Stoke City as “one of the worst-kept secrets in football” – and has wished the forward success.

The frontman had made it clear last season that he had no intention of negotiating a new contract with the South London club as he wound his deal down.

And Stoke confirmed earlier this week that Gregory had signed for Nathan Jones’ side.

Harris said: “I think it was one of the worst-kept secrets in football! It’s like I’ll be amazed if Frank Lampard doesn’t go to Chelsea – that could be another one.

“Lee going to Stoke ticks all the boxes that Lee Gregory desired in the conversations we had. It is an opportunity for Lee, first and  foremost, to be near the family home. He has a young family and that is hugely important to him.

“His record in a Millwall shirt and the Championship the last couple of years will have served him in getting an opportunity to move to a club hoping to challenge for automatic promotion.

“All I can say is I wish Lee Gregory well at Stoke, Nathan Jones is a good guy. I hope Lee does well, just not against us in the two games we play them.”
