Millwall captain could make return to squad for Stoke City match

Shaun Hutchinson has a chance of returning to Millwall’s squad for their Championship match at Stoke City this weekend.

The Lions’ club captain has been out with a groin problem since the FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United early last month.

“We’re hoping Hutchy will train Thursday, so it is potentially another player back,” Rowett told BBC Radio London. “There are a few more who are a little way behind that, maybe the international break.”

Oliver Burke, who missed tonight’s 1-1 draw with Burnley due to illness, could make a swift return to the matchday squad.

Rowett said: “I hope he’ll be alright tomorrow – a day off – maybe do a little bit of training Thursday and be okay. That’s what we’re hoping.

“I think the rest for Bradders (not starting tonight) will have done him the world of good.

“The biggest thing is we have got to try and keep people fit because we’ve had some dreadful luck with injuries.

“When that happens your squad is stretched, whereas some of the other teams vying for the top six are going to have bigger squads and more players available to use. That is going to be absolutely vital.

“Players are going to have to step up, like Shacks has done recently. That is going to be a big factor in us maintaining the position we’re in.”
