Millwall captain Craig: Hospital visit underlines why I’ve got no reasons to gripe

Tony Craig says he has no right to moan about a lack of game time at Millwall – with this week’s visit to Lewisham Hospital putting his own situation in perspective.

The club captain and a number of other members of Neil Harris’ first-team squad handed out gifts on the childrens’ wards.

Craig has made just one start in the Championship this season plus two late substitute appearances.

He said: “There are highs and lows in football – sometimes you’re not happy. But coming here puts it in perspective. If I moan I’ve got no right to, there are people in worse scenarios than myself.

“My spirits never drop. I’m the captain of this club and I’ve got to be behind the boys every single day. I can’t lapse in professionalism.

“Some players can look at the way I’m behaving. If I show signs of displeasure that can affect other people and that’s not me as a person.”

Craig’s contract runs out in the summer.

“I just take every day as it comes,” he said. “I’m enjoying it. I’m coming in with a smile on my face and as long as that continues I’ll stay. If it changes, I’ll be honest. If I feel I can’t keep up then I’ll hold my hands up.”
