Millwall chief Gary Rowett outlines ideal scenario for January transfer window

Gary Rowett’s preference in the January transfer window is to make permanent additions to his Millwall squad.

The Lions manager has talked more than once about freshening up his playing options – and reiterated that point after Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Coventry City at The Den.

Rowett will soon have a decision to make on West Brom loanee Kenneth Zohore. The striker had been sidelined long term with a calf injury but made his return as a second-half substitute against the Sky Blues – his deal only runs until the middle of this month.

The Millwall chief is confident that Tottenham will not recall fellow frontman Troy Parrott.

He said: “Troy’s here for the season and Ken’s loan expires in the middle of January. He’s not been fit, so it’s difficult to make a judgement call until he has played some games.

“We’re looking to strengthen, like a lot of clubs will be. We’ve got the backing to do that. It’s about getting some of those players who we think will make us better over the line – it isn’t easy.

“We’re at a point where we need to bring in some fresh blood.

“I think you always ideally want permanent deals. Loans aren’t ideal. With loans you try and get quality into positions where maybe you can’t afford to bring too many in permanently.

“There is nothing imminent. We’re working very hard but it’s impossible to tell you when deals are going to get done – because I don’t know myself at the moment.

“We have to wait and we have to work hard. There could be a deal this week, there could be a deal in four weeks. It’s important we get the right players and whatever timeframe that is, it is.”
