Millwall confirm loan deal for Werder Bremen’s Oliver Burke

Millwall have confirmed the return of Oliver Burke, with the attacker signing up for a second loan spell with the South Londoners.

The 25-year-old Scottish international is set to be part of Gary Rowett’s squad for Saturday’s home game against Sunderland.

Burke spent the second half of last season on loan with the Lions.

He joined Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in the summer.

Burke had a storming start to his professional career with Nottingham Forest and that led to a high-profile move to RB Leipzig. He has also played for West Bromwich Albion, Celtic and Sheffield United, joining the Lions from the latter 12 months ago.

Burke told our paper after joining Millwall the first time that he was craving stability after a nomadic career.

“It’s a massive stage of my career now,” he said at the time. “I’m 24 and I wouldn’t class myself as a young player any more.

“I’m a senior pro and it’s down to me to start playing football. That’s the key. I was starved of it for so long. To feel settled would be amazing.

“Hopefully it can bring out the best in me, instead of me constantly moving in and out of teams.

“I want to become the first player on the manager’s teamsheet. It will be the boost I need.

“I’m definitely a player who has been ready to go on an adventure and travel – no matter what it is.

“It’s life experiences as well. You only live once.”
