Millwall debut for Jason Shackell – despite on-loan Derby man feeling “worst he has felt on a football pitch”
Jason Shackell made his Millwall debut today – but boss Neil Harris revealed afterwards that the on-loan Derby man had “never felt worse on a football pitch”.
The centre-back made way early in the second half for Steve Morison as the Lions trailed 2-1.
“I’m delighted he played because he got food poisoning yesterday and wasn’t playing this morning,” said Harris. “I sent him back to the hotel for a couple of hours and at 1.15pm he said ‘just get me out there’.
“He needed the minutes. He said it was probably the worst he’s felt ever on a football field.
“Sixty minutes is a bonus for us. If he didn’t play it would’ve been a bit of a disaster.
“He has already made a big impact on the group with his leadership and talking.”
