Millwall defender has the ability to play at top level – verdict of former Premier League defender now on Lions’ coaching staff
Danny McNamara is being tipped to play in the Premier League by Millwall first-team coach Paul Robinson.
The 23-year-old right wing-back has made 33 appearances this season and is believed to be on the cusp of a full international call-up by the Republic of Ireland.
Robinson – who plied his trade in the top flight for West Brom, Bolton and Watford – said: “I played left wing-back, I know what he needs to go to that level. He’s been excellent. I’ve got a lot of time for Danny, his attitude is brilliant.
“He always wants to do extra and there are times we have to calm him down, because we’ve got a game coming up. I do believe if he keeps working the way he is that he will play at the highest level.
“I get flashbacks to myself in Danny. He’s a winner. He will get the fans up with a tackle and sometimes you need that when the atmosphere is a bit quiet, you need that first tackle to go in. Sometimes the fans need that lift from one of their own.
“Myself and Adam [Barrett] work with the young lads and the likes of Danny and Billy Mitchell are the future of the football club.”
