Neil Harris reckons Byron Webster is “flying” in his recovery from a serious knee injury – but is making no bold claims about whether the Millwall defender will be back in action before the end of the season.

The Lions centre-back is due to be a free agent in the summer and was holding down a starting berth in the Championship side until he suffered damage against Barnsley at the end of September.

Millwall moved to bring in Jason Shackell as defensive cover with Jake Cooper replacing Webster in the line-up alongside Shaun Hutchinson.

“Webby will be seeing a specialist in the next couple of weeks and I think after that it will be easier to assess him,” said Lions boss Harris. “He is absolutely flying with his recovery and rehab – ticking every box put in front of him.

“But we know how careful you have to be not to come back too soon, however strong he is looking because there is a greater risk of injury. It’s about making sure Byron is in a good place.

“Will he play before the end of the season? It’s been the case all the time that there is a small chance. But we are doing what we have done the whole way through, take it week by week.

“He is looking really good now and that is all credit to him.”
