Millwall defender: We need to start replicating away form at The Den
Wes Harding wants Millwall start to replicate their away form at The Den ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Hull City.
The Lions picked up an impressive 2-0 win at Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Zian Flemming and George Saville.
Gary Rowett’s Millwall side have won two and drawn two of their five away Championship clashes but have lost three of their opening five outings in SE16.
Steven Schumacher’s Plymouth side had taken nine points from their home games and scored 13 goals in their first four home matches before the visit of Millwall.
Harding was at a loss to explain why Millwall’s results have been so good on their travels.
“I don’t know why – but the important thing is to take that home now,” said the summer signing from Rotherham.
“We have a home game on the weekend, so hopefully we take that [the away form] into there.
“Hull are a decent team, so it will be a tough game. As long as we perform like we did at Plymouth, we can do it.”
The 26-year-old was making his second Championship start for the Lions and completed his first 90 minutes in the league since joining as a free agent in the summer.
“I played quite well,” said Harding. “I’m happy with that. I just had to wait for my time. We defended well, got into our shape and pressed at the right time. We got the win because of that. It was a solid win – that’s what we came here for.”
The result ensured Millwall bounced back from a lacklustre showing last weekend, a 3-0 defeat to Swansea.
“It’s a cliche, but we do mean it when we say forget the past and move on to the next game,” said Harding.
“We wanted to come to Plymouth and put that right. We did that.
“We know the quality that we have got in the team – it’s about taking the chances when we get them.”
