Millwall extend unbeaten run to seven Championship matches with 2-0 win over Birmingham City

Millwall extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to seven matches as goals by Jed Wallace and Ben Thompson saw off relegation-threatened Birmingham.

The Lions had a dream start when Wallace just beat Blues goalkeeper Neil Etheridge to an underhit Mikel San Jose backpass to net in the third minute.

Millwall suffered a setback after 20 minutes when Jake Cooper was forced off after redislocating his right shoulder. The centre-back landed heavily in the penalty box as he attacked a set-piece and had to be replaced by Alex Pearce.

Lions manager Gary Rowett was livid that they were denied a penalty early in the second half. Etheridge parried out a Scott Malone cross with Matt Smith denied on the follow up – but replays appeared to show Birmingham centre-back Harlee Dean used his left hand to divert the ball out for a corner.

But Millwall did make sure of a third successive league win on the bounce in the 75th minute. Shaun Hutchinson provided a class low delivery from the right and Thompson met it first time about 10 yards out to settle the outcome.
