Millwall get encouragement that midfielder loan deal could be a goer this summer

Jayson Molumby has boosted hopes he could be set for a Millwall return – after spelling out he wants first-team football next season.

The Republic of Ireland U21 captain spent the last campaign on loan with the Lions and made 40 appearances.

And Molumby is demanding the same kind of first-team exposure in the 2020-21 campaign.

“I was sitting around for long enough during quarantine, so I won’t be doing it once the season starts,” he told the Irish Mirror.

“Spending the season at a club like Millwall built me up, both as a footballer and character. My aim was to play 25 games and I got 40 in the end.”

Brighton have said they want to assess Molumby in pre-season before determining the best approach with the 21-year-old.

But the player appears to have the Lions as a favoured destination if the Premier League outfit don’t see him clocking up many minutes.

The South London club had looked into a permanent deal in the January window.

“I’m sure Millwall would be an option,” said Molumby.

“At the time Millwall were talking about making a bid, I wasn’t feeling a lot of love from Brighton. That changed once they showed I was part of their future by giving me a long-term contract.”
