Millwall have impressive Championship disciplinary record

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has talked about his side’s discipline this season.

The Lions have the sixth best disciplinary record in the Championship with 81 bookings and no dismissals.

QPR and Birmingham City are the only other clubs at that level who have not had a red card awarded against them in the 2022-23 campaign.

Swansea, by contrast, are the worst offenders with 108 yellows and three red cards.

West Bromwich Albion have the fewest cautions (73).

George Honeyman was sent off for two yellow cards in the EFL Cup against Cambridge United in August.

Jake Cooper has been booked 11 times with George Saville (11), Danny McNamara (10) and Murray Wallace (seven)

Rowett told the South London Press: “So what we’re saying is that we’re technically the most honest team in the division! The ‘dirty Millwall’ perception from outside, but actually we’re just a really competitive team.

“We’ve been clean all season. It’s not something we’ve really focused on with the players. They are a pretty disciplined bunch, as you can see with the lack of cards. Obviously I don’t want to say too much leading up to one more game.

“I’d not seen that stat or was aware of it but it shows good discipline to be so strong defensively and be so aggressive and have so few cards in the division.”
