Millwall hoping to confirm Jimmy Abdou testimonial opposition soon

Neil Harris is hoping that Millwall’s friendly opponents on July 28 – a fixture which will be Jimmy Abdou’s testimonial – will be sorted by the start of next week.

The midfielder has been granted a testimonial after 10 years of service to the Lions.

And Millwall have also got involved in sorting the special day for Abdou, who has signed next season for hometown club Martigues in France.

Harris said: “We are talking to various clubs but there is a thought process that you need to pay costs for an opponent to come, so it is about making sure it is financially beneficial for all parties but also that we get the right level of opposition.

“Things are progressing and hopefully we’ll be making an announcement in the coming week.”

Millwall have switched their plans for their matches while away on a training camp in Portugal next month.

Instead of facing one English side, they will not play two Portuguese teams.

“They will be two possession-based sides and that is better for us,” said Harris.
