Millwall injury setbacks could make transfer window deals ‘more pressing’

Joe Edwards says that Millwall’s growing injury list could make transfers this month “more pressing”.

The Lions head coach revealed after today’s 3-2 FA Cup defeat to Leicester City that Aidomo Emakhu is set to see a specialist on Monday after dislocating his shoulder in training on Friday.

Ryan Leonard came off against the Foxes with a hamstring injury.

Asked how many signings he wanted to make in the January transfer window, Millwall head coach Edwards said: “I haven’t got a number on it. It’s more of a pressing issue probably now, the more players that get injured. Albeit not many of them are long-term ones, but now we will see what Aidomo’s is and see what Ryan Leonard’s is.

“If we have got holes to fill we’ll have to be active with that.

“We’ve been working on it. We’ve worked very closely with Alex Aldridge and the scouts to talk about the idea of what we’re looking at and where we can improve the squad. That has been going on for weeks now, we made contact with certain players and clubs. The work is going on.

“We’ve spoken a lot about how the January transfer window isn’t necessarily easy – to get players. Hopefully it will be easier now we look a team in a more positive place than we were a few weeks ago.”
