Millwall injury situation could mean midfielder’s return is fast-tracked – as boss also provides Nisbet update

Millwall’s injury issues could see George Honeyman put back into the first-team fold slightly sooner than anticipated.

The former Sunderland and Hull midfielder has been out since suffering a quad injury in the pre-season friendly at Gillingham in July.

The Lions have a number of players either ruled out or injury doubts for Saturday’s home game against Swansea City – with Tom Bradshaw and Murray Wallace both picking up problems in last weekend’s stalemate at West Brom.

Kevin Nisbet, Shaun Hutchinson and Matija Sarkic have also been unavailable.

“George has been training on and off for a week or two,” Millwall boss Gary Rowett told the South London Press. “He hasn’t played much football and the medical team are keen to try not to rush him back too quickly.

“But sometimes, in circumstances like this, you have to make some of those tough decisions or take a little bit of a gamble.

“If you asked George he would be fit and raring to go. With those type of players it is more having to hold them back rather than the opposite.”

There is a chance that Scottish international Nisbet, who injured his ankle in last week’s 3-0 win over Rotherham, may be available for the visit of the Swans to SE16.

“He is not ruled out of anything,” said Rowett. “But it is whether we can get him through games, really. We won’t really know that until this week, or further into this week.”
