Millwall interested in Newcastle United midfielder – but no loan deal is imminent

Millwall remain firmly in the hunt for Elliot Anderson but any loan deal for the Newcastle United youngster is not imminent.

The Toon want the 19-year-old in for at least part of their pre-season training and that means any temporary exit for the Whitley Bay-born midfielder is still a number of weeks away.

But the Lions do have a strong interest in Anderson and identified him as a target last season. The Scotland U21 international sparkled for Bristol Rovers in the second half of last season as Joey Barton’s side clinched the final automatic promotion spot in League Two.

Millwall are hopeful of securing a deal but know that there is plenty of interest in Anderson, who joined Newcastle at the age of eight.

It was reported earlier this week that Sheffield Wednesday had made a formal approach to take him on loan.

Anderson has made two senior appearances for Newcastle, both of those coming in the 2020-21 campaign.
