Millwall legend Steve Morison has joined Shrewsbury Town on a season-long loan.

The hugely experienced forward, who turns 36 in August, had already told the South London Press at the end of last season that he intended to carry on playing next season.

And Morison, who has been working through his coaching badges for a number of years, has opted to link up with the Shrews.

It is a changing of the guard in terms of the Millwall frontline with Morison and Lee Gregory, who fired in the goals as they challenged and won promotion from League One as well as stabilising in the Championship, have both moved on.

Gregory will be confirmed as a Stoke City signing and notified the Lions that he would not be signing new terms when his contract ran out at the end of June.

Morison has been hugely influential in his time at The Den and scored the goal which beat Bradford at Wembley to return the SE16 outfit to the Championship.

But he had less starts in the previous campaign – although he appeared 44 times. Opportunities looked set to be further limited in the 2019-20 season if he had stayed at Millwall.

Lions chief Neil Harris has made it a priority to bring in strikers in this transfer window with one target being QPR striker Matt Smith.

Millwall will also listen to offers for Tom Elliott and Fred Onyedinma.

Morison has scored 92 goals in 336 matches for the Lions.
