Millwall Lionesses boss impressed by second-half display against Dulwich Hamlet
Millwall Lionesses manager Jack Wheeler was pleased with the response his players showed in the second half in their 6-2 win against Dulwich Hamlet at Champion Hill on Sunday afternoon.
Millwall are top of the London and South-East Regional League after four straight wins.
The Lionesses were 1-0 down at the break but a quickfire double from Otesha Charles and Gemma Bryan put them ahead early in the second half before Hamlet equalised with 25 minutes remaining.
Millwall scored four times in 23 minutes through Angel Reid, Jasmine Auguste, Maisie Joyce and Sophie Chapman.
Wheeler said: “In the first half we were below par, we didn’t really compete and didn’t really look like we were at the races.
“We had a few words at half-time and then the girls really put themselves about in the second half. It just shows the potential of the squad that we have and the way they can turn games on their head. I’m really happy with the second half, I’d just like it over a 90-minute period.
“Dulwich wanted it more in the first half and they deserved their 1-0 lead. We were quite fortunate it wasn’t more than one. But then the fact we were in a position where it was only one, I knew if we could get ourselves going we were always in with a chance of getting ourselves back in the game.”
Millwall are away to Bromley on Sunday. The match at Hayes Lane kicks off at 2pm.
Charlton Athletic have a break from FA Women’s Championship action as they head to Lewes on Sunday in the FA WSL Cup.
Karen Hills’ side have produced back-to-back league wins since losing 4-3 at home to London City Lionesses at the end of August.
They twice fought back from trailing to defeat Sunderland 3-2 last weekend. Ella Rutherford cancelled out Emily Scarr’s first-half opener shortly after the hour mark at Eppleton Colliery Football Ground.
Emma Kelly put the home side ahead again on 78 minutes but the Addicks almost instantly replied through Kiera Skeels.
Sunderland’s Abby Holmes was shown a second yellow card for a cynical foul and Elisha N’Dow headed in a 92nd-minute winner.
Hills said: “We are a better footballing side than what we showed, but we spoke in the huddle at the end about the character and belief and those players went on to win that game.”
Charlton have confirmed that defender Hannah Godfrey suffered an ACL rupture during their 3-0 win over Birmingham at The Valley on September 18.
AFC Wimbledon won 4-2 at Cheltenham Town in the FA WNL Cup. Ashlee Hincks scored a hat-trick for the Dons with Ellie Dorey breaking the deadlock. early on at The Corinium Stadium.
