Millwall Lionesses lose 8-0 at Manchester United

Millwall Lionesses lost 8-0 at FA Women’s Championship leaders Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village.

Mollie Green’s hat-trick paved the way for a comfortable afternoon for the Red Devils as Casey Stoney’s team remained unbeaten.

Without a win in the league this season, Millwall’s early resistance was broken in the 15th minute as Lauren James slotted calmly into the bottom left corner.

United were able to add a second just after the 30-minute mark when Mollie Green connected sweetly to a looping Alex Greenwood cross to put her side firmly in control.

From that moment on the floodgates well and truly opened with two high quality quick-fire goals settling the outcome before half time.

Katie Zelem was able to delightfully curl a free-kick over the wall and into the top left corner to make it three. Green added her second of the day and United’s fourth.

Green completed her hat-trick shortly after the restart, connecting sweetly with Alex Greenwood’s cross.

Substitute Ella Toone added a sixth, lobbing the keeper from just outside the penalty area before Jess Sigsworth added a seventh 20 minutes from time.

United skipper Alex Greenwood scored the eighth from the penalty spot after Lizzie Arnot was tripped in the box.
