Exclusive: Millwall loanee Benik Afobe set for permanent move to Club Brugge

Benik Afobe looks set to be playing Champions League football next season with the former Millwall loanee poised to sign for Club Brugge.

The striker, 29, had a successful loan with the Lions in the 2021-22 campaign.

And that form in SE16 has led to Club Brugge, who had won the Belgian top-flight title for the last three seasons, making a move for his services.

Afobe has 12 months left on his contract at Stoke City.

Lions boss Gary Rowett, when asked earlier in the week about a potential return for the frontman, told the South London Press: “Benik has a little bit of interest from other places and at the moment we’re still in those discussions.

“It looks probably like at the moment he might go to a European club, we’ll see.”

Afobe scored 13 goals in all competitions for Millwall last season. His only other previous move abroad was to Turkish side Trabzonspor, netting five times in 29 games during a season-long loan stay in the 2020-21 campaign.
