Millwall loanee celebrates U21 European Championship final glory with England
Former Millwall loanee Charlie Cresswell is celebrating this evening after England won the U21 European Championships with a 1-0 victory over Spain.
The Leeds United centre-back, who spent last season on loan with the Lions, was an unused sub for the final in Georgia.
Lee Carsley’s side won 1-0 with Curtis Jones deflecting a Cole Palmer free-kick over the goal-line at the very end of the first half.
It is the third time the Three Lions have won the trophy, ending a wait which stretched back to 1984.
Cresswell played the full 90 minutes in the final group game, a 2-0 victory over Germany. That was the only match action he got as he was forced to spectate from the bench for the other five fixtures.
He scored five goals in 28 matches for Millwall and was turning in assured performances before suffering a fractured eye socket against West Brom in early April.
That ended Cresswell’s campaign although he was at The Den for the final game of the Championship season, Blackburn’s 4-3 win snuffing out the Lions’ dreams of a top-six finish.
