Millwall manager Gary Rowett expecting Jed Wallace to stay a Lion until end of the season

Millwall manager Gary Rowett is not expecting Jed Wallace to leave before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Lions have rejected two bids from Forest for the 27-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of June, earlier in the window.

Wallace has been out since the start of December with a quad injury.

“There is the possibility that someone could come in and offer an amount of money we’d have to sensibly look at,” said Rowett.

“We’ve said it all along that we don’t want to lose Jed – he’s been a top, top player for us. That has always been our stance.

“We’ve missed that spark, pace and creativity he brings in this period of games he has been unavailable. As it stands it looks like nothing like that [a move] is going to be an issue for the club.

“Hopefully he can get fit and impact us and we’ll see where we are in the summer, because that’s a different story – that’s not really anything that any of us can control.

“What we want to do is get the best out of Jed again and for him to try and help the team, like he has done so many times in the past.”

Wallace has missed the last five matches.

Asked if he would need U23 action to build his fitness levels back up, Rowett replied: “He’s been pretty good in the past when he’s had stuff like that. He’s always been good off minimal training. He is one of those players who is naturally very, very fit.

“He tends to be one who can come straight back in and play to a good level quite quickly.

“I’ll speak to the medical team about that but we’re hoping he might be able to start training next week but I don’t want to predict what will happen in the next few days in terms of him turning up saying he feels great.

“He’s started to work to a different level in rehab, he feels a lot more confident in his injury. For me that’s the biggest thing, when Jed feels confident about something then he is really quick to get back to a good level.”
