Millwall manager Gary Rowett: Our transfer targets are sought after – it makes deals more tricky

Gary Rowett is hoping that Millwall can progress with some of their transfer targets this week – but admits deals are difficult to do with in-demand players.

The Lions made two early additions this summer with the loan signings of Tottenham striker Troy Parrott and Stoke midfielder Ryan Woods.

“It is quiet because one or two deals that we’d like to do moving forward are going to be players who are sought after by other teams,” said the Millwall manager.

“I don’t think they are easy deals to do.

“Any negotiating you go straight in all guns blazing then you’re going to have to overpay on fee and players’ wages. We have to be sensible to get a good deal, sometimes that process takes a little longer.

“I’m pleased with the work we do behind the scenes, I’m pleased with the targets we have and, as usual, it’s just trying to get one or two over the line. It’s never easy to do that.

“That’s why I’m always a little reluctant to give a timescale, because as we all know it excites everyone and then they can only be disappointed if we don’t do it.

“I’ll let it take its course but we’re working hard behind the scenes. I’d like to move one or two forward this week, because I’d like that time to work with the players before the season starts – that’s in an ideal world.”
