Millwall manager gives his verdict on Brentford draw and felt wing-backs call proved to be correct

Millwall manager Gary Rowett was pleased with his side’s display as they claimed another point off a Championship top-six side. The Lions were largely untroubled by a Brentford side who still have an outside chance of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League.

“Yeah, pretty pleased,” said Rowett. “We started well. There were some really bright bits in the first half, we had two really good chances from Scotty Malone quite early in the game.

“We felt our wing-backs could cause Mbuemo and Rasmussen some problems and they did. Danny McNamara got in behind Mbuemo quite a lot to cross to Scotty, that’s the first chance. Scotty was bright on the other side as well.

“We moved the ball pretty well at times and then you know coming here that you need to be defensively diligent because they are such a technical team, they are such a good attacking threat. We did that well, if I look back at the game the second half was a little bit tougher than the first but we came strong as the game wore on and could have nicked it at the end.

“When we had chances to pass it we felt we looked a bit tired when we were sloppy on the ball and gave them chances but they are a difficult side to beat and we have come away with a clean sheet and with Bart having to make one save all game.”

Millwall could have won it late on. Danny McNamara broke into the box but couldn’t find the right pass to Jed Wallace.

“I’m pleased with the players,” said Rowett. “We’ve got not much to play for. We could come here, be demotivated and question the desire of the lads – but we’ve drawn with Norwich twice, we’ve drawn with Brentford twice, we’ve drawn with Watford and Bournemouth.”
