Millwall manager Neil Harris: We need to make more of our chances

Millwall completed their most passes in an away game this season in their 2-0 loss at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

The Lions made 314 successful passes – a big leap on the games at Middlesbrough (192), Fulham (115) and West Bromwich Albion (138).

“Having watched the game back and reviewed the stats it [Blackburn] is a game where we played a lot of good football and found different ways of getting box to box by dominating the ball,” said Millwall boss Neil Harris.

“We had retained the ball better for a period but Blackburn had two clearcut chances to score plus a 25-yarder – we’d had five efforts and only one hit the target. We were probably the better team at that stage but we gave up too many opportunities and didn’t create enough clearcut ones.

“We got in some really good areas by playing some really good football. We are still in the match and still got two subs left to chase the game and then we switch off from a set-play, which is really disappointing. The players have to take responsibility for that. The game is over at 2-0. At 1-0 down we are still in the game, we came back against Middlesbrough and West Brom.

“We are trying to evolve and play more football – we are playing from the back more than we have done – but that doesn’t mean you are going to be more creative. We have to adapt to whatever personnel we have got in the team to find different ways to score goals and create chances.

“If you are going through a run of games where you are not scoring lots of goals then you have got to be really watertight at the back and solid. It doesn’t help when a centre-half puts the ball in the bottom corner from 25 yards.”
