Millwall midfield prospect’s absence for Sunderland loss explained
Raees Bangura-Williams was missing from Millwall’s matchday squad for today’s 1-0 defeat at Sunderland after picking up a minor injury in training.
It has been a busy period for the former Tooting & Mitcham United youngster, 20, who made his debut for England Elite during the most recent international break.
“He took a kick to his ankle on Monday,” said Lions head coach Alex Neil.
“He tried to train again on Thursday but had to pull out, so we got it scanned. It’s nothing long-term, but he wasn’t fit enough to be included.
“With Femi Azeez, Camiel Neghli and George Honeyman also not ready, we were stretched in terms of attacking options.”
There was some positive news, however, as Macaulay Langstaff and Ryan Leonard made their returns to the squad following long injury lay-offs.
“To be fair to Macca, he’s had no minutes at all,” said Neil. “He felt okay in training and got through the session, so we involved him.
“Lenny has done 45 minutes for the U23s, so we will look to build those lads up in the coming weeks.”
