George Saville feels Millwall are in a good position heading into the final leg of pre-season.

The Lions have one more friendly, this weekend against Fortuna Sittard at The Den, before they head to Middlesbrough for the kick-off of their Championship campaign a week on Saturday.

Reviewing the 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night the Northern Ireland midfielder said:  “It’s as good as pre-season gets for the fans – they saw goals, it was entertaining and high tempo.

“We can take a lot out of it – minutes under the belt. That’s what you want out of a pre-season game.

“It felt more like a Championship game, you saw that with the turnout. They brought a decent number of fans too, the atmosphere was good before the game, I felt like it was same throughout the whole 90 minutes. It was a good workout.”

The 30 year-old has been positive about the club’s pre-season, which has seen the club integrate some of their younger players into the first-team mix-up.

“As a whole it’s been positive, we’ve worked hard through pre-season and we are just about there now,” said Saville.

Millwall striker Aidomo Emakhu also drew praise from Saville.

The young Irishman has found the net twice, once at Gillingham and again against Charlton on Tuesday night – his finish ensuring the match ended all square.

“He’s young, he’s enthusiastic and he’s really positive – as you saw with his goal,” said Saville. “He’s direct and he’s only got one thing on his mind.

“You saw his intent tonight when we brought him on. Sometimes that’s what you need. He took his goal well. I’m very pleased for him.”
