Millwall midfielder Shaun Williams on playing in Storm Ciara and his new contract

Millwall midfielder Shaun Williams admitted conditions made things difficult in Sunday’s fixture against West Brom but wouldn’t use it as an excuse for their 2-0 defeat.
The UK was battered by Storm Ciara over the weekend with heavy rain and winds of up to 97mph recorded in some parts of the country.
“As soon as we came out for the warm up it was hectic,” said Williams. “But it was the same for both teams and they [West Brom] played the conditions better than we did. We were quite sloppy with the ball and they did to us what we normally do to teams.”
There is no rest for the Lions as they host Fulham at The Den on Wednesday night.
“We’ve got to dust ourselves down, not dwell on it too much, we’ve played Leeds and West Brom and got beat by both, so we just need to go back to basics and put in a good performance. The group of lads and the staff are all working hard to succeed”
The Republic of Ireland midfielder has recently signed a new deal in SE16 that will keep him at the club until the end of next season.
“I’m over the moon that will take me to nearly 35,” said Williams. “I’ve been here quite a long time, I’d like to thank the manager and staff for giving me that opportunity.”
The Lions were beaten 2-0 by West Brom on Sunday. The Baggies moved four points clear of Leeds at the top of the Championship table.
“We didn’t help ourselves with sloppy errors and stuff like that, but they showed their quality with the first goal and they could have had a few more,” said Williams.
“I don’t think we gave a good account of ourselves, compared to what our normal standards are, we didn’t really have much of a go and it showed in the performance.
“The luck of the bouncing ball, anytime one of us was getting tackled it was falling to their spare man, it was just one of those games.
“Individual errors cost us. They [West Brom] are confident, they are top of the league for a reason.”
