Millwall new boy hoping to avoid initiation song on Scotland training camp

George Saville is hoping that the fact he is back for a fourth spell as a Millwall player might excuse him from an initiation song on the club’s training camp in Scotland.

The 28-year-old re-joined the Lions last week on a permanent transfer from Middlesbrough last week.

New signings usually have to perform a song while the squad are away.

Asked if he had one in mind, Saville told the South London Press: ““I’m hoping, because I’ve done it so many times, that I get away with it this year. It’s not been talked about yet….so hopefully I can sneak out of it.”

Saville is looking forward to linking back up with Millwall winger Jed Wallace.

The pair were standout performers for the Lions when they nearly made the Championship play-offs in their first season back at that level.

While Millwall eventually sanctioned Saville’s big-money switch to Boro in August 2018, they resisted attempts by the Teessiders’ then boss Tony Pulis to also sign Wallace.

“Jed’s been brilliant, really consistent with his performances – which is key in the Championship,” said Saville. “He has been fantastic. He deserves what he gets. I hope he has a good season individually, obviously that is going to help the team achieve what we want to achieve and have a positive year.

“I’m looking forward to playing with Jed again. He is a good friend of mine off the pitch. He’s a great kid.”
