Millwall set to complete loan deal for Cardiff City midfielder Ryan Wintle

Millwall are set to sign Cardiff City midfielder Ryan Wintle on loan.

The South London Press understands that the 27-year-old is set to head to South London today for a medical.

Wintle has not played a minute for the Welsh club this season and has been told he needs a move if he wants first-team action.

He has scored five goals and collected eight assists for Cardiff in 117 appearances.

Wintle was not part of Cardiff’s pre-season trip to Austria and Cardiff boss Erol Bulut, talking in late July, said: “I don’t want to talk so much about him.

“I was clear that I am not planning with him this season.

“Ryan is a good player and is a player who wants to play every single minute and I think there we had our problem. A team existing on 27-28 players means sometimes a manager has to rotate and I think the players have to accept that.

“I think there we had our issues a little bit. He is a good player and he will have for sure offers where he can sign a contract and can continue his career.”

Wintle signed for Cardiff in 2021 but was immediately loaned out to Blackpool. Prior to joining City on a free transfer he featured 186 times for Crewe, who he debuted for in 2015.

Wintle signed a new three-year contract which runs until the summer of 2026.

He made 44 appearances and also captained the team a number of times last season. Only Greek defender Dimitrios Goutas played more often (46 games) in the Championship campaign.
