Millwall sign defender Jason McCarthy from Wycombe Wanderers

Millwall have signed defender Jason McCarthy from League One side Wycombe Wanderers.
The 23-year-old, who becomes Neil Harris’ eighth signing of a productive window for the Lions boss, joins on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
McCarthy joined the Chairboys from Southampton last summer and made 49 appearances in 2018/2019 as he was named Supporters’ Player of the Year Award at Adams Park.
The defender is a product of the Saints Academy and played once for the St Mary’s outfit – as a late substitute against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Boxing Day 2014 – before he signed for Wycombe and then Walsall on season-long loan deals in consecutive campaigns.
McCarthy then moved to Barnsley where he experienced his first taste of Championship football, but moved down to Buckinghamshire after the Tykes’ relegation to League One, spending just one season at Oakwell, appearing 24 times in all competitions.
He featured heavily for Wycombe in pre-season and is fit and available for selection for Millwall’s league opener against Preston North End at The Den on Saturday.
