Millwall striker Lee Gregory’s absence from VfL Bochum game is explained by Harris

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Neil Harris has revealed that Lee Gregory missed Millwall’s 1-0 friendly win over VfL Bochum because his wife had gone into labour.

Fred Onyedinma partnered Steve Morison in attack.

Jed Wallace’s first-half goal secured the victory for the Lions – with the match Jimmy Abdou’s testimonial.

Asked about Gregory’s absence, Millwall manager Harris said: “His wife is in labour. We wish her all the best and hopefully get some news soon.

“Today we played like the occasion it was – a testimonial for Jimmy. I said I wanted to do it right for Jimmy. It was our first time at The Den [this pre-season] with places up for grabs and it would be a sprinkling of the team that is going to play Saturday.

“It was down to them to grab the opportunity. The performance was excellent, the fitness levels were superb. I saw Bochum beat Stoke a couple of weeks ago and they were outstanding. Their use of the ball and movement was top, top drawer – as good as we’ll see in the Championship this year.

“We looked disciplined and organised, the boys have worked hard in the last six weeks.”
