Millwall to host League One side Reading in EFL Cup first round clash

Millwall will host Reading in their first round tie of the 2023-24 EFL Cup campaign.

The Lions were knocked out in the first round last season, losing 1-0 at Cambridge United thanks to Liam O’Neil’s 59th-minute strike.

Reading, who were relegated from the Championship last season, were also knocked out at the first round stage – losing 2-1 to then-League Two side Stevenage.

Gary Rowett’s side lost 1-0 at home to Reading last season in the Championship in August. However, they picked up three points at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in March thanks to Andreas Voglsammer’s early penalty.

First round ties will be contested during the week commencing Monday, August 7.
