Millwall winger injury could have been a lot more serious

Shane Ferguson is set to be out until the middle of January after suffering ankle ligament damage.

The Northern Ireland international picked up the injury in training on Thursday.

“Fergie will be out for five or six weeks,” said Millwall manager Neil Harris. “It is a real shame.

“He was chasing the ball, went to close down Macca, then spun to do the same to Kris Twardek and slipped – his knee went one way and his ankle went the other way. That is always a recipe for disaster when it comes to knees.

“We are really unlucky in the sense that we have lost an in-form player for six week over Christmas – when we have a ridiculous schedule – but looking on the positive side it is not as bad as we first feared. It could have been three or four months.”
