Millwall’s promotion odds of 500-1 are a spur to squad

The betting on Millwall’s chances of getting promoted has raised some eyebrows in the squad – but they can still prove the doubters wrong.

Boss Gary Rowett was interested that Middlesbrough, a place below them in the table, for example, have shorter odds with some bookies.

“That tells you about people’s perceptions,” he said.

“But it is not something we have discussed. We have kept the season alive with 40 games played, without having any of the top goalscorers. We have some tough games coming up – every one is make-or-break, including Swansea tomorrow.

“We know promotion is unrealistic at the moment. But we are in a nice position and the lads are embracing it.”
