More podiums for Horsman at Cadwell keep championship alive
Two second places for Cameron Horsman at Cadwell Park in round 8 of the British Motostar Championship see him give up the championship lead to Scott Ogden by just two points.
Making the most of the drying track conditions, the Forest Hill racer put his Honda NSF250 on pole with a 1:37.698 time in the standard class.
Dropping a position on the first lap of Saturday’s race to rival Ogden, the pair were joined by Franco Bourne and Charlie Farrer as the group broke away from the rest of the pack.
A slower GP class rider held the Londoner up long enough for Ogden to pull a second gap leaving Horsman to battle with Bourne and Farrer for the final two podium spots where despite dropping to 3rd behind Bourne on the last lap he kept his cool to regain the spot to take the flag in 2nd place.
Dropping 5 points to Ogden on the Saturday, Horsman needed a good start in Sunday’s race on the notoriously tight and twisty Lincolnshire circuit and that’s exactly what he got, passing Ogden who briefly dropped to third although it quickly became a two horse race between the two.
The 18 year old and his Doncaster rival were then glued together for the rest of the race with nothing between them. Ogden was a nose in front exiting Barn onto the straight for the final time as the chequered flag was readied. Pulling out of his slipstream, Horsman needed just a few more feet as he crossed the line 0.068 seconds from victory.
Horsman now sits on 170 points whilst Ogden now heads the championship on 172.
The fight for the title will resume at Oulton Park on 6 to 8th September. In the meantime, he will face Ogden again in the final round of the British Talent Cup on 23 to 25 August where he has a 16 point deficit to overhaul to lift the crown.
“In the first race we came across a slower rider from the GP class and Ogden was able to get past quicker than I was. Then I got into a battle with Bourne and Farrer whilst he was able to make good use of some clear track. There was no way I could recover the gap he had made. He rode really well.
In the second race, it was much closer. I was on his back wheel the whole time just looking for where I might be able to overtake. In the end, I had to wait until the final corner but I just didn’t get enough drag to the line. We are not leading the championship after this weekend but I am not worried. It is only two points and there are still eight races left.
Now I’m only thinking about the British Talent Cup next weekend. What an amazing experience that will be to be involved in the MotoGP weekend at Silverstone.”
