‘Multiple people’ at fault for Cardiff City’s winner against Millwall

Millwall head coach Joe Edwards says there were “multiple people” at fault for Cardiff City’s decisive goal on Saturday.

Dimitrios Goutas headed home from a corner in the 78th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for the hosts.

Goalkeeper Matija Sarkic, restored to the starting line up in place of Bart Bialkowski, could not prevent what looked a routine attempt from crossing his goal-line.

“I’d only echo what I said on Saturday and Matty’s part in it,” Edwards told the South London Press. “I know he’s disappointed with it and that is giving credit to the level of keeper that he is.

“But there is definitely multiple people involved – firstly in the build up to them getting the corner. It came from a wide free-kick that we didn’t defend as well as we should. It then develops to a corner and when we analyse it closely, like we do and knowing everyone has their own individual role to work on, there are a few people at fault.

“The goalkeeper often gets left at the scene of the crime but there were several people who didn’t do their jobs well enough there. That was disappointing and we’ve reflected on that.

“So far my experience of working with the group, in that respect of being able to face up to things, watch video and be honest – they seem a real good bunch of players in that respect. I’m hoping it’s a problem we won’t be having too often because it is a huge part of the game. It can be decisive and it has cost us massively on Saturday.”
