Murray Wallace: Millwall’s analysis work paid off in Barnsley win

Murray Wallace reckoned that Millwall’s analysis prior to their match against Barnsley paid off as they beat them 1-0 at Oakwell on Saturday.

The 28-year-old scored an 89th minute winner for the Lions, to head into the international break with back-to-back wins.

Wallace told Millwall’s club website: “I’m delighted. Last minute winner in front of our fans, I’m over the moon to go into the international break on the back of two wins. Scoring a last minute winner, what more do you want?

“We looked strong, there were parts in the first half where both teams looked a little bit tired. But we came out on top in the first-half.

“In the second half, we came out again and looked good. We were on top, dominating, causing problems, so the win was a fair result.

“We did our analysis, and we saw what their weaknesses are, and what areas to exploit and that was one of them [down the wings]. Balls in behind, down the sides, and it worked today.

“I ghosted in [for the chance in the fifth minute], the keeper fumbled it, and I was torn whether to dink it over him or pass it in. I probably should’ve scored. Unfortunately, that one didn’t go in…but I’ll take a last minute winner all day long.

“Brilliant from the fans today. It’s not a close one Barnsley away. It’s raining, it’s brilliant that they came out.

“We were causing them problems all day from set-pieces, so it was nice to score from one. I personally just love playing every minute, that’s what I’ll keep trying to do, play every minute I can.

“A few of the lads said are you going for a cooldown and doing the [London] marathon? But no, I’ll sit down and just watch it I think.

“It’s important we have a bit of downtime, the schedule’s been mad. Saturdays, Wednesdays, long travels, so it’s important we get our recovery right and we’ll be good to go again.”
