Nathan Jones thanks Charlton hierarchy and Everton boss Sean Dyche for away day switch that enabled ‘energetic’ performance at Bolton

Charlton boss Nathan Jones reckons a change in their away day preparations was to thank for an “energetic” performance at Bolton Wanderers.

The side would normally travel on a Friday lunchtime ahead of a Saturday game on the road. But their plans were shifted forward a day ahead of the trip to the Tough Sheet Community Stadium.

The South Londoners played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with promotion-chasing Bolton.

Jones revealed: “We travelled up on Thursday and we thank the club for that. They’ve done fantastically well to back us. Allowing us to come up a day early to prepare well. They showed that with the energy that we showed in the game.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche gestures on the touchline during the Premier League match at Turf Moor, Burnley.

“Not many League One sides, the owners, will back that. It’s costly. If you’re travelling London to Bolton and you’ve got to come around the M25, the M1 and M6 on a Friday you’re looking at six or seven hours. It affects your training and makes you stiff today. We asked them if we could come up on the Thursday night. Any stiffness would have been Friday.

“We trained at Everton so we thank Sean Dyche for allowing us to do that. A great guy. It proved today, we were energetic. We would have liked to have got the win but it was an energetic performance.”
