New Millwall record signing Zian Flemming explains his trademark goal celebration
Zian Flemming is set to bring his goal celebration to Millwall – which is inspired by UFC mixed martial arts fighter Nate Diaz.
The Lions broke their transfer record to snap up the 23-year-old in a £1.7million deal from Fortuna Sittard.
Flemming celebrates his goals with a muscle flex pose.
Asked about that, he told Millwall’s Recast channel: “I was really small for a long time, and I was really late – 16 or 17 – before my growth started. It was tough, I had problems getting to know my body again. From having a good position at the club [Ajax] and being a prospect to go to the first team, it changed a little bit.
“I had to fight myself back . That was tough to do. The celebration was the symbolic thing of the comeback, more or less. It refers to Nate Diaz, the UFC fighter, who had just fought Conor McGregor, and that was always his celebration. Once I did it for a fan and I kept doing it.
“Several times I thought ‘should I keep doing it?’ because it became like a big thing, people recognised me for it. It feels like an obligation to keep doing it because it has become part of my image. You activate all the muscles after a goal and with the adrenaline it makes the moment even better.”
