Newcastle reportedly eyeing January transfer window swoop for Chelsea trio

Newcastle are reportedly looking at signing Chelsea trio Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Hakim Ziyech this January transfer window.

The Telegraph are reporting that winger Ziyech would be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this winter, but Blues boss Graham Potter would be reluctant to lose midfield duo Loftus-Cheek and Gallagher.

Ex-Crystal Palace and Charlton loanee Gallagher has made 24 appearances in all competitions for the west Londoners this season, scoring one goal and registering one assist.

The report explains that Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, has been a long-time admirer of Gallagher.

Loftus-Cheek, who also spent a season on loan at Selhurst Park, has made 20 appearances this season, but a calf injury has kept the midfielder out of action in recent weeks.

Eddie Howe’s side are third in the Premier League table – nine points off top of the table Arsenal – and are unbeaten in their previous five outings in the top flight.

Ziyech, 29, has only made nine Premier League appearances this season. He played every game of Morroco’s 2022 World Cup campaign.

Newcastle have reportedly spent in excess £200million since the Saudi Arabian-led consortium took over in October 2021.

Speaking about Gallagher after their 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, Potter said: “I thought he was fantastic; great energy and great quality.

“He was playing against a team he respects and likes a lot.

“He’s been frustrated because he hasn’t had the game time that he would like, but at the same time, he’s worked unbelievably professionally to support the team.

“It’s nice today that he’s got that reward and was part of a winning performance.”
