“Next season can be exciting” – Dons defender’s message to fans after upturn in form under Mark Robinson

Paul Kalambayi has insisted that AFC Wimbledon will continue to improve next season and hailed head coach Mark Robinson.

The Dons drew 0-0 against Lincoln City on Sunday and the result means they finish the 2020-21 League One campaign in 19th place.

Kalambayi told AFC Wimbledon’s club website: “We had to show a reaction because we conceded six goal in two games. From where we want to be, that’s not a good sign so we had to put it right.

“We could’ve scored today, we had a couple of chances but so did they. In fairness a 0-0 draw is probably a fair result. We’re glad to have kept a clean sheet and that’s an improvement.

“It was my first game since Ipswich, fitness isn’t the same as match fitness but I thought I played quite well. But in the last 10 minutes of the game I had to hold on and thankfully we kept a clean sheet.

“Robbo is a manager that wants to take us somewhere and I’ve always believed that, even in the youth teams. It’s a pleasure to play under him and I’ll give everything for Robbo.

“The boys have bought into Robbo’s ideas. The system is working and we now want to push on for something special.

“We’re becoming a solid team, we’re hard to beat. Lincoln are in the play-offs, the game could’ve gone either way but I think we edged it.

“Things are changing and the players believe in it. The players believe in the manager so my message to the fans is ‘next season going to be exciting’.”
