“No days off” – Dons interim boss Robinson finds ways to train despite freezing conditions

Mark Robinson has spelled out his determination to keep AFC Wimbledon training despite the freezing weather conditions affecting pitches.

The Dons interim manager enjoyed a first League One victory at the weekend – a 3-2 success at Wigan lifting them out of the relegation zone.

Next up is a home match against Rochdale on Saturday.

Robinson said: “When I was at the academy we always had a philosophy of no days off. So no matter what the weather brought we found a way to do something.

“I talked to the sports and medicine team about us being more robust and resilient so that we can play at the intensity we want.

“They had a group Monday in the gym doing specific sessions. I had the rest of the group – we hired a pitch out at Carshalton. Even though there was snow on it we cracked on and had a fantastic session.

“It’s those things – rather than giving players’ excuses not to train. They ended up loving it.

“It will the same yesterday. I spoke to someone and they cleared a pitch so we can get down there and train.”
