‘No issue’ – Charlton boss responds to claim that Tottenham ‘furious’ over Nile John treatment

Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson has underlined he has “no issue” with Nile John- after a report this week claimed Tottenham are “furious” at the midfielder’s lack of game time.

The 19-year-old joined the Addicks on loan at the end of January but is yet to play a minute of football, writes Richard Cawley.

“If Tottenham are unhappy about that it is unfortunate but I have to do what I feel is right,” said Jackson.

“It’s been a difficult situation for Nile. The fact we’ve got six loans makes it more difficult for him and we brought in Scott Fraser after that in the window in his position. He’s got a lot of competition.

“I don’t pick a team to suit Tottenham – I pick a team to suit me and Charlton, that’s my business. I’ve no issue with the lad, he’s continued to train hard and I’d like to give him an opportunity [before the end of the season].

“I spoke to Dean Restrick [Spurs academy manager] a few weeks ago. Obviously they want the lad to play but there was nothing in the language I’d term as ‘furious’.”
