Non-league round-up: Gavin Rose praises former Palace youngster as goals keep raining in for Dulwich

BY STEFAN FROST

Gavin Rose heaped praise on former Crystal Palace youngster Giovanni McGregor for being a key component in Dulwich Hamlet’s impressive goalscoring record over the past few weekends.

The South Londoners have scored 11 goals in their last three National League South outings, collecting important wins against Hampton & Richmond (4-3), Bath City (3-0) and St Albans (4-3).

“McGregor has been producing almost an assist a game,” said Rose. “He has been integral to our set-up. It’s important to remember that it’s not just goalscorers that make goals, but the creators too.”

McGregor picked up an assist on Tuesday as Hamlet secured a frenetic 4-3 victory as fellow promotion hopefuls St Albans City saw their 15-match unbeaten run ended.

Rose said: “We started well against one of the best teams in the league, but we were sloppy at the start of the second half. However we were resolute, produced four or five chances near the end and managed to convert one for the win.”

Danny Mills and Darren McQueen both picked up a goal with Chike Kandi, a first-half replacement for the injured Jordan Green, converting a Michael Timlin pass on the stroke of half-time and also the decisive finish in the second period. Only Eastbourne (29) have scored more goals than Dulwich (28).

“We’ve tried to find the best formation to score goals and get the boys in goalscoring positions,” said Rose. “It’s taken time to get the right sort of balance, but we’re now playing with a will to win the game outright.”

The victory sends Hamlet up to second in the league table. They play fifth-placed Oxford City tomorrow.

A last-gasp Liam Hogan own goal in the 90th minute salvaged Bromley a National League point against mid-table Stockport on Saturday. They face King’s Lynn tomorrow.

Dontai Stewart and Dean Hamlin scored either side of the break as Tooting & Mitcham drew 2-2 at Basingstoke Town in the Isthmian League South Central Division. They host Marlow tomorrow.

Fisher returned to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over K Sports in the SCEFL Premier Division last weekend thanks to a brace from in-form Christian Udo and a goal from Joseph Adewunmi. The Fish are at home to Bearsted tomorrow.
