Non-league round-up: Louis Dennis grabs late winner as Bromley boost National League play-off prospects
Louis Dennis scored a 91st-minute winner as promotion hopefuls Bromley picked up a 3-2 win away to bottom-of-the-table Maidstone on Tuesday.
Andy Woodman’s side went behind in the ninth minute after Joshua Shonibare latched on to a Reegan Booty throughball and slotted beyond Reice Charles-Cook.
Goals from Louis Dennis and Charlton loanee Deji Elerewe gave Bromley a 2-1 lead before half time.
The Stones equalised seven minutes into the second half through Sam Bone.
But the South Londoners secured all three points in added time when Maidstone keeper Tom Hadler spilled Corey Whitely’s effort from the edge of the box and Dennis rushed in to smash home the winner. The Ravens, who welcome Solihull Moors to Hayes Lane tomorrow, stayed eighth in the National League table but cut the gap to the play-offs to just one point.
“We were slow to start off with,” Woodman told Bromley’s YouTube channel. “We were off the pace at the beginning and their energy was good – but we knew they would get tired later in the game. We had that in our head. If I was a Bromley fan, I would be absolutely buzzing watching that week in week out.
“We’re not technically the best team – let’s be honest, we’re not one of the top teams. But I’m telling you, I would be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn’t say how much heart and desire we have to get a result. We would be top of the league if points were given for that.”
Taylor Maloney scored a brace as Welling United suffered a 3-2 defeat at Chippenham Town. Warren Feeney’s side have only won one of their last 10 outings in the National League South and slipped down to 16th in the table. They host Hampton & Richmond Borough at Park View Road on Saturday.
Dulwich Hamlet will be looking to break out of the drop zone as they travel to second-placed Dartford tomorrow. They dropped into the bottom four after their 2-2 draw with Oxford City last weekend.
Fisher booked their place in the SCEFL Challenge Cup final despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Sutton Athletic. Andreas Tobon’s goal saw Fisher progress through after they won the first leg 3-1.
